Special Post

Every once in awhile, there is a piece of television programming so profound and compelling you actually feel like you should have paid for watching it. The HBO mini-series John Adams starring Paul Giamatti a few years back is a recent example.

I had recorded an ESPN 30 for 30 episode titled the Guro of Go written and produced by Bill Couturie'. It was about the much traveled basketball coach Paul Westhead, and dealt mainly with his Loyola Marymount team that featured Philly superstars Bo Kimbel and the late Hank Gathers.

Interspliced with quotes from William Shakespeare (Westhead was a teacher of literature in high school), this was a poignant recollection of a fallen hero (Gathers), a devoted friend (Kimbel), and a group of teammates that revolutionized the speed of the game and had a brave run trying to win the NCAA championship in honor of the teammate they lost.

The 30 for 30 series has brought some wonderful stories to light. This was one of the best.
