Daily Bloggings 5/7/10

Before the days of specialists like set up men, closers, and lefty/right matchups, there was a pitcher named Robin Roberts. He took the ball...and pitched until the game was done. No pitch counts, no fears of fatigue....he just went out and did his job. Out of 676 games pitched in the majors, Robin Roberts pitched 305 COMPLETE games. What an incredible career he had. Rest in peace Robin Roberts.....you've earned it.

Lawrence Taylor, perhaps the greatest defensive player in the history of the National Football League, was arrested yesterday and charged with the rape of a sixteen year old girl in upstate NY. I will let justice take its course and not presume guilt. But what I will presume is the utter waste of what this man has done with his life after being the shining light in the largest and most influential city in the world. Had he played his cards right....he would have had the Big Apple eating out of his hand. Instead he may soon be eating in prison fatigues out of a tin plate.

Bill Lyon of the Inquirer is semi retired now but still does a piece now and then on special occassions. His talent is limitless....words flow from his keyboard with the silky smoothness of Bailey's Irish Cream.

The Dow fell almost 1,000 points in 90 minutes because of Greece? I guess we are truly a global economy.

The Oakland Raiders finally admitted their 39 million dollar mistake and jettisoned Jamarcus Russell after three seasons. Look for an NFL rookie salary cap in the next collective bargaining agreement or you will be watching replacement players again in the 2011 NFL games.

Happy Mother's Day weekend!!
