September tomorrow? Say it isn't so. Better get the snowblower dusted off and oiled up.

A casino in Gettysburg? Why there? Plenty of other places available rather than this hallowed ground.

NFL predictions:

Eagles brutal schedule makes them NO BETTER than 9-7 this season.

NYJ take a step back and NE wins the division. Cincy fails and Baltimore runs away with the AFC North. Houston breaks through and finally makes the playoffs.

A titanic battle between Minnesota and GB for the NFC North with GB coming out on top.

Surprise team of the season....SF 49r's win the NFC West edging out Arizona.

You heard it here first......

Emmys and stuff

Roger Clemens faces indictment today for lying to Congress. Mike Tyson, Pete Rose, OJ Simpson, Tiger Woods...and the list goes on and on and on.

Cole Hamels pitches a gem for the Phillies yesterday. If he wasn't such a whiner and didn't make that comment about "wishing the season would be over" while his team was in the middle of a pennant race, I would actually admire and root for the guy.

Edie Falco wins another Emmy and is one fine actress. And I guess I'm going to have to start watching Glee and Modern Family now.

Speaking of Modern Family....if there is a fan club for Sophia Vergara can someone sign me up. YOW!!

Just saw an ad for a Rolls Royce Ghost. Only 26k due at signing and $3,169 per month with a $2.50 per mile charge for anything over 5k per year. Something to ponder for your next choice of autos.

Former RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman comes out of the closet...not that there's anything wrong with that.

Tiger Woods shoots a 65 and leads a tournament for the first time in almost a year....must be the relief of only paying his ex-wife 100 million.

I never watch professional tennis anymore...except for the US Open. Something about the visual sharpness of the courts there in Flushing, NY catches my eye.

A bad egg recall you say? Let's start with Congress.

Enjoy the weekend....

Chad Ochocinco gets caught tweeting during a game and is fined $25,000. Odds are he will do it again....until you fine him a game check.

Regardless of the consequences, isn't a Tastycake worth the calories?

How long can the NFL owners get away with MAKING season ticket holders buy 4 MEANINGLESS pre-season games? Look for an 18 game season to come with the next collective bargaining agreement.

Did you see the new Miss Universe Erikas Saukalas from Mexico? You do now...Ay yi yi.

The Rites of Passage

My niece Alisha getting married a couple of weeks ago....

Dropping my beloved daughter Alexandra off at college to start her adult life...

There is no denying change. It's inevitable.

But it can bring a tear to the eye of even the most hardened of men.

Best of luck ladies....and may God protect you on your journey.

Traveling to Tampa tomorrow....so here is an early blog:

Bobby Thomson died yesterday. His shot off the Brooklyn Dodgers Ralph Branca "heard round the world" captured the NL Pennant for the NY baseball Giants in 1951. Time sadly marches on....

Blagojevich guilty of lying to the Feds? Say it ain't so! It's a good thing Obama doesn't remember meeting him!

Was there ever a classier first Lady than Laura Bush?

Another shocker...Brett Farve is coming back. But will he play next year? Let's start the media watch now!

Peace......

NYG QB Eli Manning took a wicked shot in last night's exhibition game against the Jets that not only took off his helmet but opened a gash in his forehead that required 12 stitches. Unlike his NHL counterparts, he took the rest of the night off.

Recently watched a repeat of the movie "Milk" on HBO. Although I am not a fan of his politics (to put it mildly), you have to rank Sean Penn up there with Deniro and Pacino as one of the great actors of his time.

Ex-Eagle Brian Westbrook signs with the 49r's. Here is hoping he wears a padded helmet and stays concussion free this season.

I've tried to get into "True Blood".....but i just don't get the fascination. can anyone enlighten me?

Freedom

Freedom is a wonderful thing. As a nation we fought and died for it. But absolute freedom without thought or rules is a bad idea.

Freedom of speech is important.....but you shouldn't be able to scream "FIRE" in a crowded theater and laugh at the reaction. Bad idea.

Freedom of sexual expression is important....but you shouldn't be able to fornicate on your driveway in front of the neighborhood children. Bad idea.

Freedom of religion is important.....but building a mosque at ground zero is a ridiculous proposal designed to rile the masses and cause unrest. The fact that President Obama doesn't recognize this is troubling.

Building a mosque is important....building it at ground zero is a very bad idea.

Your thoughts?

I'm back from Chicago......and no I didn't venture to Wrigley to watch the Cubs get swept by the Reds. Thanks for asking.

Read a book over the weekend titled "In My Shoes" by Randy Winton, and is recommended reading for anyone who has a son. (Even though I do not!)

Rodney Strong Cabernet is a great buy for the $.

Wasn't getting your gas and electric bill this month fun? Cancel the vacation!

Comcast spending millions on legal fees to acquire NBC/Universal. No wonder my cable bill is so high.

95 and humid today....enjoy the sweat.

Daily bloggings 8/6/2010

Traveling this week to my hometown of Chicago.....home of the 2011 World Champion Chicago Cubs

Eagles slugging out in the heat at training camp and it pleases me in a perverse sort of a way. Too many question marks here though with a new QB, a patchwork offensive line, and a defense that was shredded by Dallas the last two weeks of the season. I see them at 8-8 or at best 9-7 this season.

Had the best sweet corn of my life from Cody's in Marengo, Illinois last night.

Congrats to my niece Alisha and her fiancee Sean who are getting married this weekend!

Til next time....

The Good Old Days....

Bandleader Mitch Miller dies at 99 years of age. He pioneered the goatee before it was cool.

My wife Terri's Uncle Art D'Angelo will be 95 in December. He asked me how my father Jim was doing recently. He last saw him at my wedding over 28 years ago....amazing!

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno is 83 and is talking about possibly extending his contract beyond the remaining two years left on it!

Rock on......

Spirit Air is now charging for carry-on luggage. What's next...?

Chelsea Clinton's wedding over the weekend was an ultra-exclusive affair. I'm told pants suits for the mother of the bride were optional.

Pro football training camp has begun and players have begun dropping like flies, Brett Farve hasn't decided yet to play, and Albert Haynesworth was just paid a 21 million dollar bonus but can't pass his conditioning test. Sounds about right to me.

We are about to bid farewell to one of the most abrasive personalities (and voices) in the history of politics. Adios Charlie Rangel....

Ciao.......
